Decorating Bedroom Dressers Ideas
When it comes to wardrobe storage and organization, the dresser is a key piece of bedroom furniture. Along with your closet, your dresser keeps everything folded neatly in its drawers (most of the time) and easy to find during the morning rush. But a dresser is so much more than just a place for folded clothes. Far too often, the dresser top becomes a mess with jewelry, magazines, coffee cups, and other clutter. To keep the catchalls at bay, we're going to help you style your dresser as an interior designer would. Read on to see bedroom dresser decor ideas and styling tips to stay tidy, stylish, and organized.
Start with a blank slate.
The easiest way to begin styling your dresser is to clean everything off and get rid of dust and anything else that's accumulated. A blank slate will let you know what can fit and help you visualize how you want everything to look. Get rid of anything you don't want on the dresser top. Plus, this is a great excuse to clean your furniture and get rid of or donate unwanted items.
Choose main decor pieces.
Now that you have a clean dresser top, you can pick some core pieces that you want. Consider your needs and your wants — if you know you need a table lamp or a spot for a potted plant, leave some space. But if you want to add some decorative vases and other decorative items, put those off to the side as well. Just keep the size of your dresser in mind; styling works for a double dresser and small dressers, so just know what you can fit without it being too overwhelming. Having a small area rug in front of your dresser is another great way to start setting the tone for the style , design , and color you want.
To mirror or not to mirror …
A mirror is certainly not required for a dresser but if you know you'll want one for convenience and getting ready, you can do this a couple of different ways. Many dressers include a matching mirror, so that's easy enough. If you want to get a little creative, however, you can go with a mirror-less dresser and add your own mirror. This creates a customized, modern look all your own and gives the same effect of an attached mirror. Having a mirror won't change much with how you style the chest top — just make sure taller items are out of the way and not blocking the mirror. A large mirror on the wall will still work with a tall dresser as well.
Add storage accessories.
Do you use your bedroom dresser as a vanity or as a storage space for jewelry and other accessories? Rather than leaving items scattered across the top of the chest, corral your items with some jewelry trays or small bowls. It'll keep everything looking neat, deliberate, and you'll find what you need way easier. Plus, a tray or two will work as functional decor, which is always ideal for small spaces.
Try some wall art.
If you decide you don't want a dresser and mirror combo but still want something for the blank space, add a piece of wall art! You can hang a piece of art or lean one (or both). This is also a great way to play with height, if you decide to lean some wall art on top of the dresser. Have one tall and one small piece or a tall piece paired with a shorter vase or decorative object.
Create balance.
One of the cardinal rules of styling also applies to decorating your drawer dresser: have balance with the items. Space everything out in a way that's visually pleasing and plays with height. On one side of the dresser top, you might have a cluster of smaller items and on the other you'll have a larger piece or two such as a plant, vase, or lamp. If you have a main piece or two and some small trays for storage, add medium-sized accents such as personal items or photos, candles, books, decorative sculpture, or boxes.
Now clear off your dresser and get styling! Just keep in mind what you use the dresser for and make the key pieces the main focus. Style around essential items like a lamp or accessory trays. Play with different heights to avoid a flat, one-dimensional look. And integrate your own personal items for a unique touch.
